The Ministry of the Environment of the State of Mexico activated the actions in Phase II of environmental contingency because this morning an extremely poor air quality range was recorded in the metropolitan areas of the Toluca Valley and Santiago Tianguistenco.
In a statement, he detailed that at 07:00 hours a maximum value of 202 points of the Air Quality Index of particulate particles PM2.5 (152 micrograms per cubic meter) was presented at the station of San Cristóbal Huichochitlán, in Toluca.
He stated that this condition was caused by the burning of pyrotechnics typical of the New Year’s tradition.

In the face of this, the state agency urged the population to avoid civic, cultural and outdoor recreation activities, as doing so can increase the dose of inhaled contaminants.
In addition, it recommended postponing scheduled sporting, cultural or mass entertainment events and reducing the use of the particular vehicle.
“The burning of materials and waste, including those carried out for training and training of personnel, as well as smoking in enclosed spaces, is prohibited,” he said.
The Atmospheric Monitoring System, in its 10:00 a.m. report, posted on its Twitter account, noted that the air quality is poor in Tláhuac, Tepotzotlán and Coacalco, with 104, 108 and 137 IMECA points.
Sedema reports page and app failures
Meanwhile, the Ministry of the Environment (Sedema) of Mexico City, through its Directorate General of Air Quality, reported that from 2 am on Wednesday there was a failure in the page and app of the Air Quality Monitoring System (SIMAT) due to a fiber outage of the telephony service – internet.
The unit clarified that this failure does not impact air quality monitoring, but prevents the air quality index records from being published.
In the face of this, Sedema announced that information on air quality monitoring in the Valley of Mexico will be disseminated on Twitter accounts: @Aire_CDMX and @SEDEMA_CDMX, as well as on the website sedema.cdmx.gob.mx and through IMECATEL: 52789931 extension 1.
The latest Sedema air quality report, cut from 1 p.m., shows that the highest value was presented at the Coacalco station with 141 PM10 points.
