This Wednesday, January 1, the Communist Party (PC) held its classic lunch “Caldillo de congrio”, where the collective takes stock of last year and project the objectives of the collective for the new year.
Among the topics discussed was the discussion about the new Constitution. In the party’s view, this “must be with gender parity, seats reserved for native peoples and participation of independents.”
In this sense, the president of the PC, Guillermo Teillier, stated that they are considering forming a command together with the conglomerate.
“We are considering forming a command with Unity for Change, and we are talking to other parties that did not sign the agreement. We will put all our capabilities and tools in the face of the plebiscite,” he said.
Despite this, Teillier said that “it is difficult for the opposition to present itself as a single conglomerate, but we can agree on common objectives,” Teillier added, asked about how opposition parties would present themselves April 26.
“We have the absolute conviction that we will participate in that process (plebiscite and constituent process), but we cautiously say that there is something that is still missing, because there is neither gender parity, nor reserved seats, nor independent lists,” he said.
The party’s president emphasized that “our first demand is that the Senate in this case, where these bills are, approve them hopefully before March 8 because if they do not, the process jeopardizes everything that has been progressed.”
“We are preparing for a year in which we are sure that social demands will be the order of the day, because this government, while true, had to open space to a constituent process, has not yet given any response to social demands” Concluded.
