Going to the market or the super will be different this 2020, because you should not forget the bag, basket or cart for the errand, because from this January 1, the establishments will no longer give you plastic bags when selling your products. 
The Solid Waste Act states that it is prohibited, from day one of 2020, “the marketing, distribution and delivery of plastic bags to the consumer, at points of sale of goods or products, except if they are compostable”. 
Only “plastic bags necessary for hygiene reasons or preventing food waste as long as there are no compostable plastic alternatives” are excluded from the measure.
The owner of the Ministry of the Environment of Mexico City, Marina Robles, indicated the eve that, if the establishments violatethe established, establishments may be fined up to 168 thousand pesos, but more than a punishment, this measure seeks to generate a change in society regarding the use of this material.
At a press conference, he noted that, if he did not comply with the aforementioned law from 1 January next, the sanctions contemplated range from 500 to two thousand Units of Measurement and Updating (UMA’s), with a value of 84.49 pesos each. Therefore, the value of the fines would be between two thousand 245 and 168 thousand 980 pesos.

Next year there will be no more plastic bags, but by 2021 it will be other single-use plastics that will be banned in the capital. 
These will be: forks, knives, spoons, mixing sticks, plates, potes or straws, cotton swab swabs, balloons and rods for balloons, glasses and their lids, trays for transporting food, tampon applicators, made entirely or partially of plastics, designed for disposal after single use, except those that are compostable.
The marketing, distribution and delivery of products containing intentionally added microplastics and single-use coffee capsules made from plastic materials shall also be prohibited.
