Mexico.- After the murder of 16 inmates at the Regional Center for Social Reintegration of Cieneguillas, the Government of Zacatecas strengthened security abroad and inside all state criminals.
At a press conference, Public Security Secretary Ismael Camberos explained that all prison staff, including the director, are being investigated by the State Attorney General’s Office.
“On instructions from the Governor, Alejandro Tello Cristerna, the local Coordination Group reinforced security on the perimeters of Zacatecas prisons, and the Secretariat of Public Security did the same internally,” he said.
The official indicated that over the weekend they conducted an operation inside the Cieneguillas prison, in which they found white weapons, but no guns.
He suspected that the firearms used in yesterday’s assault were introduced on 31 December, which was visiting day.
Camberos added that an inmate arrested during the attack with a firearm was already made available to the State Public Prosecutor’s Office, adding that the five wounded were reported as health stable.
He reiterated that yesterday’s events were an attack by inmates belonging to the Sinaloa Cartel against members of the Gulf Cartel.
