A 6.0 magnitude earthquake in the south of the country on Saturday at 22:40 hours left some damage to homes and infrastructure in Oaxaca, authorities reported.
The earthquake was recorded in the vicinity of Unión Hidalgo, on the coasts of Oaxaca, and was also perceived in Chiapas, Tabasco, Veracruz and Puebla, reported by the National Seismological Service.
The Oaxaca State Civil Protection Coordination (CEPCO) reported that after the routes damage was detected in two regions.

The head of the CEPCO, Heliodoro Díaz Escárraga, detailed in a statement that Civil Protection of Unión Hidalgo reported that the damage to the infrastructure of the market 5 de Mayo, affected by the 2017 sixsms, was exacerbated.

According to the authorities, families living around the risk zone were urged to evict, but “refused to leave the site.”
Ceiling cuts and detachment were also presented at the Health Center of this municipality.

Staff of the municipal coordination of Civil Protection of San Blas Atempa reported the affectation on the facade of a house.
In Santo Domingo Tehuantepec, in the Barrio Santa María, an uninhabited house presented the landslide of shingles. In Unión Hidalgo three houses were found with cracks in dividing walls.

Díaz Escárraga indicated that in this regard the bridge of Asunción Ixtaltepec, Protección Municipal reported that it has a slight settlement in the pedestrian zone, “which does not pose a risk to the circulation of vehicles”.
In the Papaloapan Basin, a house located on Avenida Independencia presented wall-sheddamage damage in one of its bedrooms.

The coordinations of Civil Protection of Chiapas, Tabasco, Veracruz and Puebla have not reported any impact so far.
In its report, the National Seismological Service recalled that Oaxaca is one of the states with the greatest seismicity, where approximately 25% of the country’s earthquakes are recorded.
“The origin of this seismicity is due to convergent contact between two important tectonic plates where the Cocos plate subducts under the North American plate,” he explained.
