Alabama. – A former special education teacher in Alabama charged with sexual acts with two students pleaded guilty, reportedly. Lyndsey Sherrod Bates, who was also a volleyball coach at Madison County High School in Gurley, was sentenced Tuesday on time plus three years of probation. A 10-year prison sentence was also suspended as part of an agreement with prosecutors, REPORTS AL.com.Bates, 23, was accused of having sex with one student and engaging in a sexual act with another.
Both teenagers were at least 16 years old and neither was in Bates’ class at school, said Madison County Deputy Prosecutor Tim Douthit.Bates, who did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment early Wednesday, resigned a month before being arrested in April. Two days after she was arrested, Bates’ husband, Andrew, filed for divorce, citing «incompatibility» in an uncontested breakup that was later finalized about 14 months after marriage, reported AL.com earlier. Andrew Bates’ father, Stacy Bates, is deputy chief of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, which issued a statement at the time of his arrest claiming that the relationship had no impact on the investigation.

Lyndsey Bates will also have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, reports AL.com. «She’s going to be a sex offender and offender,» Douthit said.
