translated from Spanish: National Youth Survey: 7.2% of young people declare LGTBI people

The IX National Youth Survey conducted by the National Youth Institute (Injuv), consulted this year on gender identity, where it was found that there was an increase in people who declare themselves with diverse sexuality, who according to the Mo Integration and Homosexual Liberation (Movilh), means “less fear to point out or comment on sexual orientation, whatever it is.” According to the group, including this question “contributes to the visibility of trans people, while support for equal marriage and homoparental adoption rose 10 points in relation to the previous survey carried out in 2015, all or rather reflects a profound cultural change that we value.” The survey was applied from December 2018 to April 2019 to 9,700 young people between the ages of 15 and 29. Of those consulted, 90.5% were declared heterosexual, a figure that in 2015 was 82.9% and in 2013 84%. Meanwhile, 7.2% claimed to be part of sexual diversity or in the process of being screened, a figure that was 5.4% in 2015 and 3% in 2013.Of the total of those who identify with sexual diversity, 2.1% said to be homosexual; 2.4%, bisexual; 2.1% “in exploration” and 0.6% were in “another category”. In 2015 the figures were 2.2; 1.6%, 1.6% and 0%, respectively. Meanwhile, in 2013 they were 2%, 1%, 0% and 0%. The Movilh appreciates that in this case the number of people who do not know or do not respond has decreased: in 2013 it was 12%; 11.3 per cent and 2019 at 2.3 per cent. In addition, 2.1% claimed to have an assigned sex at birth that “does not match the perception of gender”. Trans men, according to the survey, would be 0.6% of young people and trans women 0.9%, while 0.6% are declared transgender. The study also showed an increase in youth support for LGBTI rights: 68.5% support equal marriage and 60.7% of homoparental adoption. In 2015 the numbers were 58.6% and 50.1%, respectively.
