translated from Spanish: AMLO promises justice and memorial to victims

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador promised to achieve justice in the case of the Lebarón and Langford family massacre in Bavispe, Sonora, and announced the placement of a memorial in memory of the victims.
“There is to progress and there will be justice, not just because this is an issue that affected Mexican and American families, or because it happened at the border. It is our conviction to enforce justice everywhere,” the representative said.

The president said he will meet again with relatives of the three women and six children who were killed on November 4 and that, within four months, he will return to Bavispe, where he will present a development plan for the region.
López Obrador thanked the Secretariat of the Navy, the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Citizen Security for their performance “from the earliest” and their contributions to the investigation of the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic.
In addition to achieving justice and punishment for those responsible, he noted that in conjunction with the governor of Sonora, Claudia Pavlovich, and the municipal president Cornelio Vega, agreed to erect a memorial in memory of the victims.
He also considered making a special recognition “to those who decided to go to the rescue of the victims” so that “we highlight this, true solidarity”.

Prevention as a strategy
During his message, the representative commented that his government seeks reconciliation and peace in Mexico, but that it will not be done “only with the use of force. Now there is a new paradigm, a new way that, we think, will give us results.”
“We must first address the causes, that there is no more disintegration in families, that the family that is the most important social security institution in the country is strengthened,” he said.
According to the representative, his government’s strategy is to provide opportunities for young people, so that they do not approach organized crime.
