Guanajuato.- A commando attacked a group of people who dined at a street taco stand on Saturday night on the streets of Celaya, in central Guanajuato state, killing seven people, including a 7-year-old boy and a woman. According to local authorities, the attack occurred at 21 a.m. (3.00 GMT on Saturday) when armed men travelling in three vans attacked people dining at a street stall.
The municipal government of Celaya reported that after the attack an operation coordinated by personnel of the Municipal Police, State Public Security Forces, National Guard and Mexican Army, which also included the alertation of neighboring municipalities. Paramedics who came to help the victims confirmed that they had no vital signs; at the site of the attack, the National Guard corroborated the deaths of five men, a woman and a seven-year-old boy. So far, authorities have not reported detainees. This was the second massacre to occur in the Mexican state of Guanajuato in 24 hours. Just Friday 25, a commando attacked and killed new people, including two women, who dined at a roadside restaurant in the municipality of Villagrán, 20 kilometres from Celaya.According to figures from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP), Guanajuato closed 2019 as Mexico’s most violent state, with 3,540 murders. The violence has increased in this entity due to the clash between the Cartel Santa Rosa de Lima and the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación, criminal organizations that dispute the control of the sale of drugs in the area.
