Japan’s Ministry of Health on Monday reported the detection of 60 new cases of the new coronavirus on the cruise that has been moored in the Japanese port of Yokohama since last week and in which eight Argentines travel, one of them affected by the disease and in at a local hospital. These new cases bring to 130 the number of infected so far in this vessel and put the total number of cases in Japan above 150, according to the new results of the medical tests carried out on board by the Japanese Ministry and collected by the media National.
Since last Monday, the Diamond Princess cruiser is in Yokohama (south of Tokyo) with its 3,700 passengers and crew on board quarantined, and the Japanese authorities have carried out analyses on those who had possible symptoms of illness or had been in close contact with other infected people. Among the passengers there are eight Argentinian citizens, seven who remain quarantined aboard the cruiser, who are “isolated and have no symptoms”, and one who was disgnosticated with the disease and “improvement” in the Japanese hospital where he remains in hospital, Argentina’s health sources. The Ministry of Health decided to take these preventive measures prior to the ship’s arrival in Yokohama and upon learning that a Hong Kong citizen travelling on the ship and had landed in that Chinese autonomous region was infected with the new coronavirus. The Japanese government also confirmed on Saturday the death of a 60-year-old Japanese citizen who was hospitalized in the Chinese city of Wuhan from severe pneumonia, making him the first Japanese to be believed to have died from the outbreak of the new coronavirus.
