Nine police in Mexico City were arrested for participating in three express kidnappings in the capital in December 2019.
Omar García Harfuch, head of the Ministry of Citizen Security, reported that the arrest warrants were fulfilled against eight men and one woman, all policemen.
He explained that in the first case, on 9 December 2019, police officers intercepted a trader who could not prove the provenance of his goods. The uniforms put him on a patrol car and asked for money so he could free him.

The merchant’s wife reported the events, for which two policemen were arrested.
In a second case, on 31 December 2019, police and other people with covered faces and civilian dresses entered a house in Iztapalapa where they deprived two men of their liberty for two hours. Four police officers were arrested for this case.
In a third case, a group kidnapped a man outside his home, along with a child under 2 years of age. The plainclothes policemen asked for money in exchange for their release. This case occurred on 23 December 2019 and 3 police officers were arrested for him.

Garcia Harfuch said that acts of abuse and desonity from the elements of the corporation will not be concededed or tolerated. 
“There is nothing more shameful than public servants betraying the trust of society,” said the SSC headline.
