translated from Spanish: AMLO calls for clear murder of Samir Flores

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said he hopes it will be clarified who was responsible for the murder of activist Samir Flores because “the conservatives” blamed him for his murder.
“Perversely some groups that disagree with us came to blame us for that murder,” the president said at his morning conference on Thursday.
Samir Flores was an activist who opposed Morelos’ thermoelectric plant owned by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and promoted by the federal government.
“Let it be clarified who was responsible for this. A day earlier, on the eve of the consultation, it is very casual and the truth is that conservatives are capable of everything,” added López Obrador.
A year of murder is now in the run, with no justice yet going on.

Between 23 and 24 February 2019, three days after the assassination, consultations were held in the 60 municipalities of Morelos, Puebla and Tlaxcala to see if the work of the thermoelectric plant was continuing.
In the consultation, by 59%, supporters of the thermoelectric plant, the pipeline and the pipeline, which had been supported by López Obrador, overcame the consultation.
The president said the activist’s death “served those who are looking for how to blame us for affecting us,” but that they are respectful of freedom of expression and human rights.
He said there are currently shelters that prevent the plant and pipeline from being operated, which he clarified were built in previous governments.
The works cost 20 billion pesos, which he said, are public resources so he asked those who oppose them to become aware and not allow the plant to become scrap metal.
“That people will help us and realize that if you leave that plant, if it becomes scrap, more than 20 billion pesos are lost and that it is not against a particular interest” because the plant is owned by the CFE.
