translated from Spanish: Fucam will no longer care for free breast cancer; doesn’t make a deal with Insabi

The Breast Cancer Foundation (Fucam) will stop providing free care because it failed to reach an agreement with the federal government, following the cancellation of Popular Insurance.
Through a statement, Fucam reported that despite “the commitment of our attempts, as well as our results and the experience that supports us”, they failed to reach an agreement with the Institute of Health for Welfare (Insabi), so they will not be able to continue to provide comprehensive care to breast cancer patients.
Fucam fails to make a deal with the Insabi
According to the foundation, the agreement it had with the Popular Insurance was terminated on January 1, 2020, with the disappearance of that institution.

After that, Fucam continued to finance cancer treatments with its resources, “in the hope of concluding an agreement with the Insabi, in order to continue our care scheme”.
However, this did not happen, and as a consequence “is forced to curb gratuitousness, as inputs and medicines are lacking for this type of care,” he said.

Fucam patients who were cared for by The Popular Insurance will receive a summary of their medical record on the day of their scheduled appointment.
With it, they will be able to seek to continue their treatment at the National Cancer Institute, the Hospital Juarez or the General Hospital of Mexico, indicated the foundation.
Faced with the concern of his patients, Fucam reiterated his intention to reach an agreement with the Insabi.

The disappearance of People’s Insurance
On January 1, the Popular Insurance was replaced by the Insabi, created by the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
The institute announced that it would provide free and unrestricted medical care and medicines for all its beneficiaries.

To be a beneficiary of Insabi, citizens do not have to join or pay fees. Simply present your INE credential, Unique Population Registration Key (CURP) or birth certificate.
On 8 January, it was disclosed that the medical services provided by insabi are free only at the first and second level of care.
However, the national health institutes and federal hospitals charge a “recovery fee” because they provide third-tier or very high-specialty care, the Ministry of Health said.
