Yesterday the resignation of Education Minister Marcela Cubillos was resigned. In his replacement, he will assume the undersecretary of the portfolio to date; Raúl Figueroa. The “express” cabinet change was not without controversy and from the teaching world they already gave a warning to the new minister.
The president of the College of Teachers, Mario Aguilar, told Radio Cooperativa that “there will be conflict” if Figueroa’s policies follow the Cubillos line. “I anticipate that, while it is true that he is more dialogueand and we have a more fluid dialogue than we had with the former minister, if he is going to pretend to make a continuism of the policies that Marcela Cubillos was pursuing, obviously there will be conflict , because what the country is asking for are changes, and not continuing from something that is rejected today,” the leader said.
Although Aguilar called Figueroa an ideologically closely linked person to market policies in education, he assured that in the guild “we are clear that he is a fairly ideological man and has this vision that is questioned by the country.”
Asked about Cubillos’ resignation, the teaching leader told the radio that the output “was a minimal rationality,” because “with all the conflicting March can be with her in charge of Education yet, I think it was a problem rather than a solution to something.”
“The concrete thing is that she did no longer give to remain in office: she had a serious questioning of a lot of the actors of education, she was absent a while ago,” Aguilar concluded.
