The office in both chambers of the project that guarantees gender parity in the constituent body that will have in its hands the drafting of the new Constitution was celebrated by several sectors as a victory. However, it was not for everyone, and the disagreement stances soon came to light.
One of the detractors and advocates of the Reject option is the senator of National Renewal (RN) Andrés Allamand, for whom the approval of parity – which ended up being approved also with vows of Chile Vamos – was an episode “unfortunate”.
In an interview with El Mercurio, the former president of RN noted that his coalition, Chile Vamos, including its three parties, “squared early with parity”, but showed the serious flaws that the approved formula has that originated in the House.
“What should have happened is that Chile Vamos had to stick together to move forward with any of the three proposals it made in this area, which have obvious advantages over the one that was ultimately approved. It is inexplicable that there has been a split in Chile Vamos’s votes,” he told the morning.
Asked for his comfort in RN after the vote, Allamand rejected freedom of action and noted that he prefers a party “that democratically takes its decisions and in which the minority joins the majority position,” he says that this is how he understood throughout his decisions political career, the internal democratic life of parties.
“I find it difficult to conceive of a mechanism in which this majority principle is not respected and a tendency is started to act for the free, even by adding votes with the adversaries,” he smeared.
Senator RN takes care of his sayings and says he has expressed his complete conviction that it is essential that the centre-right be squared with the Rejection. “One always, when he assumes positions of this nature, receives crossfire. It’s not the first time that something similar has happened to me in my political life, but I’m very happy with the task I’ve self-imposed,” he acknowledged.
Allamand accepts that there is a minority percentage that is by the Apruebo in RN, however, his view is that in the party “already a very strong support for the Rejection that increases every day”.
“I can’t understand Lavín’s reasons”
One of those who votes Apruebo within Chile Vamos is the mayor of Las Condes, Joaquín Lavín, who assured that he will vote for the Apruebo to the new Constitution, making differences again with the official position of the Independent Democratic Union (UDI).
“Lavín’s leadership at UDI confirms that there is no connection between the plebiscite scenario and the presidential stage,” criticized Allamand, who noted that the UDI has closed ranks in the Rejection and the Descon’s building has enrolled with the Apruebo , so it is confirmed that they are “two distinct planes”.
“What I cannot understand are Lavín’s reasons for being in the Apruebo. I have never heard any criticism of the content of the present Constitution. And unlike myself, i have presented a set of significant reforms to it, I have never seen it ever present reforms to the Constitution, that is, the constitutional issue has been off its agenda,” he said.
Andrés Allamand does not sympathize with the position of Joaquín Lavín and reiterated that he simply fails to understand why at this juncture the mayor adds to the approaches “with which the left is fundamentally identified”.
