On the market there are several vehicles with air filters that prevent both pollen and particles, or some viruses and bacteria, from penetrating to the inside of the cabin, but only one, certifies that it is able to protect its occupants against the coronavirus. The chinese giant Geely who created this vehicle is responsible for designing and marketing this system in record time. The model they have just released to the market is the Icon, a luxury SUV that has an N95 air filter certificate. This particulate filter prevents bacteria and pathogens such as coronavirus from entering the cabin, as it traps 95% of 0.3 micrometer particles. The Covid-19-causing virus is smaller than particles 0.3 micrometers in diameter. But because the virus is transmitted by respiratory droplets, the actual particles that carry the virus are large enough to be stopped by these types of filters.
Beyond the way that the Icon project predates the emergence of the virus, geely explains that they were able to develop “in record time a new intelligent air purification system (IAPS) with N95 certification”. Among its features, the car offers a 1.5-liter, 180 hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine, associated with a six-speed automatic box.
