The wave of sustainability is taking hold in our country and it is easy to realize how many companies and organizations seek to positively impact the ecosystem. In this sense, messages of inspiration and slogans of large companies that invite to take care of the planet are just the tip of an iceberg, which we have gradually discovered the last time, understanding the message, giving it value and putting it into practice.
While some are consolidating in sustainable matters, achieving certifications that prove that they obtain for their operational eco-efficiency, others are still in early stages. In other words, there are still several organizations that are not informed of their internal consumptions, beyond the final account and without the necessary tools for good management related to the subject.
Reducing the pollution of our environment is everyone’s job, replacing our plastic products as shopping malls have done, reducing mass consumption in fashion, are indications that efforts are concrete and that consciousness is being internalized by private companies. On the other hand, the same real estate world and big companies have been no exception. In recent times, many of them have developed high building standards, in search of the creation of more sustainable buildings, striving to prefer energy efficiency certifications and swim in favor of this sustainable wave.
In this sense it is possible to note that we have increased research on the renewable energy sources of our country, with solar energy being the most consolidated, which, according to Climatescope 2018, makes Chile a world leader, in the use of this type of energy: unconventional renewables.
From this point of recognition, it has been seeking and improving, over the years, the use of alternative energies to boost the economy, technological development and environmental conservation of the country; as well as the private sector companies themselves, they seek to cover the new market niches associated with the energy sector in an efficient and sustainable way.
Incursion into this world allows us to demonstrate the energy efficiency of a structure and that is when we can discern more clearly and seriously, which companies are handling this issue consistently. In this sense, it is possible to talk about LEED certifications, a differentiating attribute that allows not only to improve the indicators of operational eco-efficiency, but also to have better building standards, demanding criteria that allow, among others lower energy and water demand.
One of the institutions that has over time demonstrated important energy performance is Bci, where we have implemented different measures in all facilities, such as: low-power systems in air conditioning and lighting, ISO 50001 certifications and Leed. All these efforts have allowed us to reduce to date more than 24% consumption and obtain important recognitions, such as the Energy Efficiency Seal and the CEM Insight Award.
Finally, the call is to continue multiplying in this area, to contribute together – responsibly – to the reduction of the ecological impact in our country and to ride together the wave of sustainability.
