translated from Spanish: Nature burning a cartridge

By these weeks – say those who have the privilege – have seen the best postcards from space. The planet is more clearly observed as it is unveiled at the mandatory pause of its production. The machine and the living species stopped – not counting the human dehumanized – decided to go out and get some fresh air. There are many reports and news for these days that indicate and illustrate how in different parts of the world there have been specimens that for decades did not appear. On the other hand, the cold numbers are indescible, polluting emissions have been reduced to high levels. What things are, a few months ago the scientific community with a mixture of horror and wonder saw the Antarctic continent melting dangerously, today the community sees humanity suffering at an unprecedented rate.
Progress under the scheme of life that the world adopted has the pride and sufficient arrogance of the thoughtless production at all costs. Greed, capital, exploitation, globalization, whatever you want, has inescapable consequences and are in sight. If on this occasion it was a bat, or a pig, or unhygienic cultural customs, or any other procedure with some exotic animal that triggered the catastrophe, little importance is at this point. More important is to think about what exists behind this troglodyte sample of feeling and thinking about life. So, it seems that we are accelerating day by day to become more and more cavernous, and for the worse, we feel comfortable with it. Little matter the extinction of many species, little matter the destruction of different habitats, little and nothing is questioned as we have pulverized the boundaries of the planet and its natural sanctuaries.
Faced with the barbarity we have caused, it seems that nature decides to burn a cartridge. It puts us in trouble and makes us disturb. It seems that the select power group in the world still believe that the debate they have to give, or the challenges they face, go back to what to do with children in the homes without attending school, or how the economy is revived and entrepreneurs and their companies that move the world. Again in that line the substantive debate is unknown and the wrong path is wrong. The issue doesn’t happen whether or not we’re prepared for a pandemic, as tycoon Gates said. This is about not thinking about remedies for muddy things that as human beings we will continue to commit in our paradigm of productive life. Rather, this should become an opportunity for a serious debate about how we need to live in harmony with the planet and all its species. The time has come to give up all sorts of dogmatic highness and presumptuous power, the opportunity came to reflect on how destructive and self-destructive we are becoming, as a film said, for a few more dollars. Frankly, world leaders are not seen living up to this problem.
Chile is experiencing its own anguish. It’s clearly hard to react to a colossal problem, but I still believe that things should have been done better. The government always belatedly, behind two steps of the mayors, so much so that they preferred to hand over “command” to law enforcement. With law enforcement, the government is more free to propose its plan and not that of communal governments. Little power fights that do little for the transmission of contagion. Argentina – to give an example – with less than half of Chile’s cases, is already in total quarantine. Even before the government, the people had already been organized in several provinces. Quarantine must be decreed without hesitation because otherwise we will regret it more. The worker must also be protected, his debts suspended, and the state must assume his role strongly, he owes us. The country must stop.
Nature is telling the accumulation of the world and the speculators of the country, that before the pocket, there is life. We’re in time to understand.
