translated from Spanish: PRODEMU Foundation postpones its activities throughout Chile and calls for the prevention of Covid-19

Paola Diez, Director of the Foundation for the Promotion and Development of Women (PRODEMU) today announced the suspension of all its programmatic offer at the national level, which benefits approximately 60 thousand women annually. The decision is a precautionary and self-care measure to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus among PRODEMU Women For the Director, the decision “is a call to the prevention of all Prodemu women and the community at large, to avoid meetings and mass gatherings to protect our older adults and vulnerable populations.” The director recalled that 23% of the women who participate in the different training spaces and days of the foundation are older adults, “so we also call for them to attend vaccination centers gradually, to be immunized against the influence,” he noted. The foundation also joined other institutions that urged their workers to conduct telework, in order to meet the needs of PRODEMU women throughout Chile. In this sense, the director called for family co-responsibility, as “the distribution of tasks and good communication to be able to explain the new context that affects all members of the household, will be fundamental to achieving dynamics healthy family members in protracted crisis situations like the one in the country.” The Director noted that “social segregation” is necessary as a preventive measure, so it is an opportunity to improve living practices within families, since care and household chores are usually on women, which is a gender stereotype that from Fundación PRODEMU we seek to eradicate.
