Mexico City, Mexico.-In the face of assaults against doctors and nurses, Hugo López-Gatell Ramírez, undersecretary of health prevention and promotion, said they are outraged and concerned about this situation. At a press conference, he said there is a component of the Covid-19 strategy that is safety, which includes health personnel and material guard facilities.
“We are concerned and outraged that health personnel will receive attacks. It’s really outrageous, it’s very alarming that there are people who are channeling very basic feelings, such as fear,” he said. He warned that the person who perpetrated any of these assaults may be the next person who has the disease or one of his or her family members. Lopez-Gatell expressed his appreciation and admiration to the health staff “at this time when we are going to enter phase 3”.
For this reason, it called on the population to respect, be supportive and give the best quality to the workers in the sector.
In the face of nonconformities of patient relatives, the official noted that it is part of the medical profession to communicate in a transparent, accurate and compassionate manner the health situation of the patient. If that does not happen, he noted, it is a problem of quality of care and the relevant authorities should be alerted.
