In order to support the Covid-19’s emergency response, Enel X, the innovative global line of business of the Enel Group and Here Technologies, a global leader in geographic data and mapping services, have launched “City Analytics – Mobility Map”, a big data solution that estimates variations in public movement and kilometers traveled across Italy’s national, regional and municipal areas. The solution is an addition to the City Analytics suite, created by Enel X for government agencies and urban planning.
The service maps macro flows of movement throughout the Italian territory, at the national, regional and municipal levels, based on an analysis of anonymized and aggregated information from connected vehicles, maps and navigation systems, produced thanks to connections with location information from mobile applications and open data from government agencies.
Information processing generates a number of key indicators:
The daily percentage of change in the number of trips in an area compared to a weighted average since January 2020, with aggregated regional, provincial and municipal views;
the percentage of daily variation in total kilometers traveled, compared to a weighted average of January 2020, with aggregate regional, provincial and municipal views;
a view of the daily percentage of areas crossed from the entrance and exit of each municipality, province, region;
origin/destination arrays indicating the percentage of weekly trips between regions, between provinces and between major municipalities.

The information can be consulted free of charge until May 31, 2020, by central and local government institutions, affected local governments and the Department of Civil Protection at the YoUrban Portal in Enel X. They can be used to better understand the impacts of Covid-19 containment measures, identify areas that need greater support in implementing these measures, and analyze the gradual return to normality in a data-driven way, once the pandemic is completed. In addition to government institutions, the public will also be able to access daily mobility flow data through the dashboard on the Enel X website, and actively support local governments in such a challenging period for Italy.
