The deputies of National Renewal, Paulina Nuñez, Diego Schalper and Sebastián Torrealba made a hard question to the role that the opposition has played during the period in which the pandemic has lasted, even after the Broad Front coined the term “False Normality” to paraphrase the “New Normality” Executive’s campaign, which is the program of gradual return to daily life and which have driven several countries after the global health emergency.
“The call we want to make to the opposition today is to build, to understand that Chile is first, and that we understand that because of the differences they have, the break they have, they are first trying to order themselves, to agree and to recover the table of this Chamber of Deputies and to re-govern. But they have no other way out than to think of Chile and all the Chileans who today require an early response from this Congress, from the politicians of our country and a position that we hope will be constructive and not obstructive,” said Paulina Núñez
So, Nuñez continued: “Today if we want to get into a war of slogans, I have no doubt that they will lose, but we are not going to get into that fight. Ricardo Lagos, a former president of our country, leaves to tell a truth about the bearing of a ship, which today the opposition is not giving the width. And instead of letting that news happen, the first thing opposition leaders do is come together to criticize one of their leaders. That’s what the Chileans don’t want.”
For his part, the head of the bank, Sebastián Torrealba said that, “The opposition is not understanding anything: We are in the largest health, social and economic crisis in the history of our country and without prejudice to that the opposition continues to try to block, it continues to criticize decision after decision; they are specialists to criticize, they are specialists in blocking, but they have no idea to collaborate. What Chileans are asking for today is for us to work together to solve their problems, not for politicians to monetize criticism in Congress for an electoral goal. No more small things and blockage,” Sebastian Torrealba said.
Diego Schalper added that, “Here we have two oppositions: An opposition to the Lakes and an opposition to the Jackson. Opposition to the Lakes is one that understands that we are in the most important crisis of the last 100 years, and therefore that we have to work together. And the opposition to Jackson is the one that plays with the crisis as if it were a stock exchange; always trying to stretch the elastic a little bit to say that the one who bought the action was him. Then I would ask you for unity in the speech. I hope more opposition to Lagos, less opposition to the Jacksons, and understand that Chile needs us to work together and not be in the permanent trench.
Finally, Torrealba noted that “what matters to them is to monetize crises in their favor and that speaks very badly of the opposition.”
