The controversial remodeled Espacio Riesco will open its doors as a health center this week, according to health minister Jaime Mañalich. After months of waiting since the compound was leased by the government, it will eventually be occupied by Asymptomatic Covid-19 patients in the coming days.
“Depart this Thursday or Friday as an asymptomatic Covid-19 patient isolation site. We initially thought that hospitals were going to be saturated, and it turns out that this image of the worst has not arrived and we have half of the hospitals unoccupied and very intense pressure because hospitals become places of intensive intermediate treatment,” said the portfolio holder in dialogue with T13.
Initially the property was to be used for the treatment of people with other pathologies that require less complex care, in order to allocate hospitals for people infected with the virus. But given the timely capacity for people with coronavirus in hospitals, a change in the initial plan was determined.
The government’s lease of this private compound added a number of criticisms, as a state center may have been chosen and a tax expense avoided. Finally, from the presidency, they defended the determination by arguing that Space Riesco has the necessary conditions for feeding, air conditioning and backing up generators.
