The National Statistical Institute (INE) reported on Wednesday that the informal occupancy rate reached 28.9 percent in the January-March 2020 quarter. This is the highest value since the period July-September 2017, with a rise of 1.6 percentage points (pp.) in twelve months.
The sectors that led to this increase in informal occupation were trade (13.8%), health (29.4%) and public administration (29%). By occupation category expansion was influenced by private employees (14.8%) and public wage earners (32.9%).
Meanwhile, informal occupiers recorded an increase of 6.6%, influenced by both women (8.7%) as for men (5.0%) and for the 25 to 34 year (10.6) stretch.
On the other hand, the female informal occupancy rate was 30.8% and the male occupancy rate was 27.5%.
The NSO reported that it is making “all methodological efforts to further develop estimates of key indicators at the national and regional levels; however, this scenario will be evaluated month by month due to difficulties in surveying the COVID-19 pandemic mobility restrictions.”
