Jalisco.-The Jalisco Health Secretariat (SSJ), through the Commission for the Protection of Health Risks of the State of Jalisco (Coprisjal) issued Health Alert for the use of methane, aimed at the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, food, as well as the production and crafting of sweets and typical beverages. “Because methyl alcohol has a high degree of toxicity, even by inhalation, it is highly flammable and explosive, which additionally puts at risk the people who handle it in production and storage areas of the companies that use it,” explained Coprisjal owner Denis Santiago Hernández.
As of May 6, health workers “have made 807 verification visits to establishments, securing 4 thousand 164 litres of alcohol (4,164 liters), and the establishments have delivered 2 thousand 092 liters of alcohol (2,092), so you have a total of 6 thousand 256 liters of alcohol insured (6,256)”
The Coprisjal continues in close communication with the Federal Commission for the Protection of Health Risks (Cofepris), as the investigations extend to Mexico City and the state of Coahuila, where the product is allegedly being produced and marketed.
