San José.- A criminal court in Costa Rica sentenced a man who agreed to have raped his underage daughter for eight years, the Public Prosecutor’s Office reported on Wednesday.The Public Prosecutor’s Office detailed that the sentenced person is a man identified as Alcides Castillo Vázquez, 45, who agreed to undergo an abbreviated judicial process after acknowledging his responsibility for the events that occurred in the town of , province of Puntarenas (Pacific).
“The Gender Unit of the Quepos Prosecutor’s Office demonstrated the guilt of a man who was charged with the offences of qualified rape, corruption and sexual abuse, to the detriment of his own daughter. Alcides Castillo Vásquez will serve 31 years in prison, after deciding to undergo a special abbreviated process in which he accepted the charges assigned, without having to submit to a trial,” says official information. According to the ruling, which was final on Tuesday, Castillo agreed to have committed abuses and rapes to the detriment of her daughter between 2012 and 2019, when the child was between 6 and 13 years of age. The defendant also agreed to have shown pornography to the child, reported the Fiscalía.La investigation in this case began in 2019, after a doctor from the state-owned Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social approached the girl for a health situation and sent a reference to the Public Prosecutor’s Office to suspicions that the child was being the victim of sexual offences.
On 4 July 2019, the judicial authorities detained Castillo, who has since been in pre-trial detention as a precautionary measure, pending the conduct of the judicial process against him.
