translated from Spanish: During the confinement there was reunion and non-domestic violence: AMLO

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said conservatives want to show the government as opposed to feminism and women’s struggle.
“None of that, unlike conservatives we have convictions, we have principles, we are humanists, but there is an insistence to want to confront us, then there is no problem of conscience.”
“The questioning of femicides is one of many questions,” the representative said.

“Disqualifications on this issue and others do not cease, but we will continue to be like every day guaranteeing peace and tranquility, protecting Mexicans, men and women, we cannot allow hate crimes.”
“Tell all the women in Mexico who are protected, represented, that we are doing everything to ensure peace and quiet, and I understand that our adversaries are looking to confront us.”
At a press conference, the representative assured that the only concern and occupation has to do with homicide. “Everything else has gone down, we’ve moved on.”
“Where we haven’t been able to have a significant decrease has been in homicide, but I’m sure it’s going to be achieved,” he said.
“There was family reunion, not violence”
On May 6, the president said that gender-based violence has not increased during COVID-19 quarantine and this morning insisted that what has been held is a family reunion.
“It was said that there was going to be interfamily violence and there was not, a recent survey stated that one of the things that people were celebrating is that there was a family reunion, one of the good things that leaves us this evil, this pandemic,” the representative insisted.
The president was questioned about his statement of past days when he said that 90% of distress calls on violence against women are false, despite official records of the increase in violence during confinement by the COVID-19 pandemic.
One of the reporters asked for clarification of the number of false calls taking advantage of the presence of the owner of the Governorate, Olga Sánchez Cordero, and the Secretary of Security, Alfonso Durazo, but did not give details.
Olga Sánchez Cordero said the data on 911 and the detailed report on the issue of violence against women will be given on May 26.
The civil servant said that in Mexico there is a patriarchal system so it must be recognized that there is violence against women and that there is machismo.
Homicides and femicides drop slightly
In April, 2,950 deadly homicides were recorded, slightly lower than in March, which was 3,000, according to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System.
“The important thing is to point out that the containment line has been preserved and the upward trend that this manslaughter historically had has not been allowed, even if the number is high,” security secretary Alfonso Durazo said this morning.
Durazo noted that femicides also had a downward figure during April. The record indicates that there were 70 murders against women, while on March 78.
During the first four months of the year, there have been a total of 11 thousand 535 intentional homicides. In the same period there were a total of 314 femicides, with February the month with the highest number of murders of women, with 92.
