translated from Spanish: General Motors reactivates operations at Coahuila and Guanajuato plants

The company General Motors of Mexico reported that since this Thursday afternoon they gradually restarted operations at the Motors and Transmissions plants in the complexes of Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, and Silao, Guanajuato, while the Plants of Ensamble will start work this Friday, May 22.
In a statement, the company stated that the return of its workers will be given in a “scheduled and safe” manner, and “in line with the recently published government provisions, which include the manufacture of transportation equipment as an essential activity and having completed the Health Security Self-Assessment with a result of approval compliance by the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) issued today”.
The company reported that in the case of GM’s manufacturing complexes in Toluca, The State of Mexico and San Luis Potosí, the restart date of operations is still being determined.
“In order to have a return to safe operations, GM of Mexico has developed a robust health safety protocol, following the actions that the company is taking globally and in line with the recommendations of agencies and authorities such as: the World Health Organization (WHO), the Secretary of Health, IMSS and the Secretariat of Labour and Social Security.
“After almost two months of suspension of activities, we will reopen our manufacturing complexes by applying the strictest health safety protocols and are ready to move forward, working for Mexico.”
Last Monday, employees of General Motors (GM) Mexico, from the Silao complex, ensured that there are no conditions to return to work at the plant, as there are areas within the complex – which employs 6,500 people – where it is impossible to keep a distance of one and a half meters to avoid coVID-19 contagions.
“There are areas within the factory that are impossible to work with a meter and a half away, and so far they have not said what will happen in these cases,” said Israel Cervantes, a member of the organization Generating Movement, which brings together active workers at the plant.
