translated from Spanish: FGR has removed 119 officials investigated for corruption

A total of 119 officials, from state delegates to public prosecutors and even experts, have left their posts in the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) as a result of investigations initiated against them over allegations of possible corruption.
This as part of the strategy that the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in Internal Affairs (FEAI) has promoted since its creation in 2019, to try to eradicate bad practices and even crimes that persist in dependence, following its evolution since the old PGR.
Yesterday Animal Politician revealed that, according to the testimonies of lawyers in five states, the agencies of the Federal MP persist corruption and extortion practices ranging from asking for gifts to provide copies of files that are free, to literally “selling” releases and express trials.

FEAI confirmed to this medium that 1,377 investigative folders have been initiated for alleged acts of corruption, and revealed that these inquests resulted in the departure of 119 public servants from the institution.
“Our permanent contact with the public and with a series of preventive measures that we have taken has allowed us to receive complaints where, in fact, cases of bribery, extortion, abuse have been confirmed,” FEAI owner Adriana Campos López said in an interview with Animal Político.
The data show that among the officers who have been removed from office, decommissioned or resigned, and who are now under investigation are 59 Federal Public Prosecutors’ Officers, 44 Federal Ministerial Police, three experts and two area directors.
Several high and medium-old staff are located in the same situation, including two general coordinators of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, two unit holders, five state delegates and two state sub-delegates.
Investigations related to these cases and the facts are kept under stealth so as not to hinder the inquiries, but the Prosecutor’s Office noted that there have already been several related to prosecution. As of last February, according to data obtained by this means through transparency, there were at least 13 former former former prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Office already prosecuted a judge for corruption offences.
Among the high-impact cases that have been publicly transcended is that of the former FGR detail in Quintana Roo, Javier Ocampo García, who left office following a search carried out by personnel under his charge in which abuses were allegedly committed and until the possible planting of a firearm. The case is still under investigation.
While last May he was separated the head of the Federal Ministerial Police of FGR Kayosci Guerrero Ortega, in the context of the inquiries by a simulated search that was actually a robbery artary in the home of an entrepreneur in Atizapán de Zaragoza, State of Mexico.
Reporting is key: prosecutor
FGR’s Internal Affairs Prosecutor Adriana Campos López stressed that the complaint by lawyers, victims and society in general is vital to combat the impunity that is recorded in the agencies of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
He stressed that the Prosecutor’s Office had implemented mechanisms to facilitate this complaint, including the toll-free hotline 01 800 890 9780 which operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, as well as email [email protected] Both ensure the safety of whistleblowers.
In addition, he highlighted other strategies that have been launched by the instruction of Attorney General Alejandro Gertz Manero, such as a one-stop shop in all delegations and sub-delegations of the institution to facilitate the monitoring of the care that people receive when going to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and a random call system to review the opinion of the people who carry out some procedure.
I note that from 2 January 2019 to April 30, 2020, more than 823,000 people who have come to the institution have received the opinion, and said that the experience was mostly satisfactory, although there have also been feedback on situations that may improve.
“And we have had about 30 cases through these calls where allegations of corruption have been given rise, where we have been told that money is being asked for paperwork, where, for example, 20 thousand pesos were requested to do an expert, and all of that is channeled and investigation folders are started without exceptions,” the prosecutor said.
In this context, the FEAI holder stressed the importance of the complaint in facilitating the work.
“We think we’re doing a good job, but reporting is vital to that. People can feelbe sure to come with us. Our Prosecutor’s Office is the only area at the federal level that is certified with the anti-bribery standard 37001, which is an international standard,” she concluded.
