Mexico City Police did not prevent looting, assault or destruction in buildings and shops so as not to fall into provocation, said the head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum.
“They had a goal yesterday, what’s the cause or who they represent? they finally had a goal that was to show the Mexico City police suppressing a mobilization, that was the goal,” he said this morning at conference.
There was no repression, that is what they were looking for and they did not have it because we are building a police force that does their work in the face of crime and also that respects human rights and who also knows how to act in the face of these acts.”
“What they were looking for yesterday was to call it a repressive police officer and they couldn’t put it on,” he said.
On Monday, a group of people dressed in black protested police crackdown in Mexico. On their way through Paseo de la Reforma they painted and broke glass from Metrobus transport stations.
They also entered a Starbucks in the Glorieta de Colón and, on Juarez Avenue, an Oxxo. They both mined goods. On the 5th of May street they also made pints, smashed glass and ransacked a sportswear shop.
Sheinbaum acknowledged that without repressing, a protocol of action should be sought in the face of such vandalic demonstrations, which end with looting and robberies.
“We have to work on schemes, protocols, that allow us without repressing, without using police abuse, to stop some of the actions that were committed yesterday,” he said.
The head of government commented that it is sometimes easy to ask for the police to act, but stressed that they kept them at a distance and that this speaks well of the security elements. “Let the police resist has their virtues, ” he argued.

President López Obrador raised peace groups to avoid confrontations and destruction during protests in the country.
He indicated that such groups would not be armed, but protected.
“Without weaponry, nothing rather protected, because the police also have instructions not to respond and they are assaulted hard, sometimes they carry sticks with nails and it is a provocation and many policemen fall into provocation and hit and that is also wrong and must be punished,” he said.
