translated from Spanish: CChC presented plan that seeks to create 600,000 jobs over a three-year period

On Monday, the Chilean Chamber of Construction (CChC) presented the so-called “Employment and Reactivation Plan”, which aims to create 600 thousand direct and indirect jobs over a period of 3 years. The idea is to establish 240 thousand jobs during this year, and 360 thousand in 2021 and 2022.
According to Emol, the president of the CChC, Patricio Donoso, explained that among the objectives of the plan is the “satisfaction of social demands associated with housing, urban equipment and infrastructure, and addressing urgent problems” such as the water crisis.
In this regard, Donoso noted that “the country is experiencing a severe economic crisis and an accelerated loss of jobs, against which our industry can play a very important role of containment and revival.”
With regard to the plan itself, the leader of the guild argued that with this proposal “we identified concrete measures and projects – of rapid implementation, both in the area of housing and infrastructure – that will undoubtedly help to realize the Emergency Plan agreed this Sunday morning by the political world”.
With regard to the 3-year deadline for job creation, Donoso explained that this was decided because of previous experience in crises. “For example, after the ’81 crisis, it took four years to return to the employment levels before this and three years in the case of the 1999 crisis. That is, it is going to take, rather than an initial impulse, a sustained effort to put behind the current crisis we are experiencing,” he said.
In economic terms, the CChC plan involves an investment of US$22.6 billion. US$10.29 billion will be earmarked for public investment and US$12.31 billion for private investment.
