Local authorities reported on Wednesday about 24 people killed and seven injured by an armed attack at a rehabilitation center in Irapuato, Guanajuato.

“The Secretariat of Citizen Security reports that at 17:24 hours a report received to the Emergency System 9-1-1 was dealt with on an attack inside a Rehabilitation Center, which does not have a record or authorization from the authorities,” the municipal authorities said in a statement.
“Elements of the Municipal Police of Irapuato came to the place, located in the street Cerrada Guanajuato, in Arandas, where they found 31 people, 24 of them lifeless and 7 injured, apparently by firearm, who required transfer with emergency units for their care and three of them are reported serious. In fact, there was no report of deprivation of liberty,” they added.
The prosecutor of the entity, Carlos Zamarripa, said that a specialized team will take charge of the investigation of the case “for the investigation and clarification of this cowardly criminal event that lacerates society. We will capture the accused and bring them to justice.”

Governor Diego Sinhue said on social media about this crime that “today more than ever the coordinated intervention of federal and state authorities is necessary, as the only way to successfully address this situation.” 
Guanajuato has become the focus of violence in the country, with the confrontation in that entity of the criminal groups Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación and Cartel de Santa Rosa de Lima.

This crime occurs on the same day that the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, presumed that on the two years of his electoral triumph the security policy of his government has begun to yield results.
“During our time in government, we have been able to maintain the crime of homicide without sensitive increases and we have broken the historical trend of its growth,” the federal representative at Palacio Nacional said.
What happened in Irapuato adds to the list of massacres that have occurred in the last two years.
The murder of 29 people occurred before at the “White Horse” bar in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, which was shot and then set on fire on August 28, 2019; the massacre at a party in Minatitlán, Veracruz on April 13 of that year that left 13 dead, including a child; and the murder of seven people at another party in Tierra Blanca, Veracruz, on May 30, 2020.
In Guanajuato, eight young men were shot dead in Apaseo el Alto on 19 May; the crime of 4 students shot at a workshop in Celaya and the massacre of ten young men at a rehabilitation centre in Irapuato, both on 6 June; also the murder of 6 members of a family, including a girl and a pregnant young woman, also in Celaya on 18 June.
