Authorities in the Ministry of Health on Monday delivered a new balance sheet regarding the advance of coronavirus in Chile. Health Minister Enrique Paris said “we have -31% of confirmed cases in the last 14 days.” In that regard, he argued that “there are good signs,” but that “we will not make any hasty decisions regarding health measures.”
Regarding the daily figures, Under-Secretary of Public Health Paula Daza reported 3035 new cases, 2,354 with symptoms, 404 asymptomatic and 267 unre not reported. 76 new deaths were also reported in the last 24 hours.
With this new data, the total contagion since the start of the pandemic amounts to 298,557, in addition to 6,384 deaths and 27,804 active cases.
Asked about total deaths, which according to deIS would be more than 10 thousand, Minister Paris clarified that there are 7,057 deaths and that the other 3,000 correspond to “probable cases”. “Let’s not confuse, there are 10,000 deaths, according to the DEIS report, it’s 7,057 and we recognize the difference. The difference corresponds to probable deaths.”
The Secretary of State also celebrated the drop in positivity rate of 19% in the last seven days. He stressed that “this is thanks to the efforts of the health teams. We’ll keep working because we won’t put our arms down.”
Finally, regarding any changes in confinement measures, Paris stated that “we will not take for the time being any measures that vary quarantines, this decision is made in conjunction with the expert committee, led by President Sebastián Piñera”.
