Government authorities and mayors of the Metropolitan Region arrived on Sunday to the Movistar Arena; where the production chain is located and the second delivery of “Food for Chile” boxes.
In the activity, led by the Minister of Social Development and Family, Christian Monckeberg, it was announced that there will be a second food delivery for families from all over the country, “the first and most important thing is that in this second stage and as of this week, 3 million food boxes will be distributed throughout Chile. 1 million and a half will be for the regions of the country and 1 million 500 for the Metropolitan Region, totaling 5.6 million boxes in this double campaign,” the secretary of state said.
The minister said that “we know perfectly well how hard the pandemic has been and as a government we have made an important effort to be able to generate a social safety net that will accompany families who are living in difficult situations, uphill, where needs are more present and evidently resources are scarcer”, noting that “the proposals are looking to support middle-income families who also see needs , which also see gaps and that many of them have not received any support from the State.”
With this new “Food for Chile” delivery campaign, the authority argued that what is sought “is to protect the neighbors so that they do not leave their home, so that quarantine, so that taking care of themselves is effective and we can reach each of their homes with this support. In this second installment we will contribute a lot in logistics to support the municipal teams, who we know have made an effort on humans to be able to distribute these boxes in a good way in their first stage”.
The second delivery of boxes, in addition to increasing the number of families to which will be reached will have new products of basic need.
In this regard, the minister noted that “the President asked us all to make an effort to reach the families that needed it so much with the food baskets, put deadlines on us, demanded us, asked for cooperation from the mayors and mayors of all over Chile in a rather delicate way, through the regional governments, and through all the authorities to reach 2 million 600 thousand boxes of food that were distributed in that first stage. Which allowed us to reach this new stage of Food for Chile, which has quite a few novelties that are gathered by the concerns that have been raised by neighbors and neighbors, mayors and mayors who collaborated selflessly with their teams to make this successful”.
The great novelty of this second installment, is that the boxes will include protein and carbohydrate input, such as: oil, pastas, rice, puree, legumes, toiletries, and personal products such as hygienic and condom towels.
The delivery will also have special offices for people with Covid and new logistics to reach families in the country faster.
The minister thanked the mayors for their support “for the effort they put into first distribution and also for the ideas they put on us to make this second stage successful. Ideas such as increasing the number of boxes, contributing to distribution costs, whether in resources and logistics arrive better.”
Delivery of the new boxes will begin this week.
