Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported on Sunday that there is a campaign of attacks and lies against federal undersecretary of health Hugo López-Gatell, and said that the coVID-19 epidemic has been properly and professionally confronted in the country.
In a video on his social media, López Obrador noted that the pandemic in Mexico “is going down, is losing intensity”, and in the most recent report he was given upon arrival from the United States he was told that only in 9 states there is an increase in contagion, while in the rest there is a decrease, the cases go down.
On the other hand, he mentioned, “the other pandemic of alarmism” persists of what he considers to be a conservative press, which has criticized López-Gatell’s performance and his role at the forefront of the coronavirus strategy.
“They compare us to other countries and it is not how they are making it known, I want to give peace of mind, to the extent of the circumstance, to give them the assurance that we are going forward, that we are improving, that we are facing well, professionally, this pandemic.
They have waged a campaign against Dr. Hugo López-Gatell, who is a professional but they attack him permanently, they are very desperate because what they expected did not happen,” he added.

So far in Mexico the federal Ministry of Health has reported the deaths of more than 34,000 people due to COVID-19 disease.
Faced with criticism of the number of deaths and comparisons with other countries, which he believed have been incorrect, the president gave a number of figures.
For every death in Mexico by COVID, he said, there are 2.4 in the UK; Spain, 2.2; in France, 1.6; 1.5, and Brazil 1.2.
