translated from Spanish: CDMX stays at orange traffic light ‘with alert’ for increase in hospitalizations

The government of Mexico City reported that the next capital of the country will continue at orange traffic light “with alert”.
At a press conference, head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, said the alert is due to the daily increase in the number of hospitalizations in the last week.
Although he emphasized that there has been a decrease in the number of intubated patients.
As of This Friday, 2,674 people were hospitalized by COVID, as well as 774 intubated people.

At the moment, the availability of general hospitalization for non-serious COVID patients is 45.8% (2,250 beds), and for intubation of 62.1% (1,271 beds).
As well as 8,529 deaths and 66,444 cumulative confirmed cases, of which 4,638 are active.

There are also 14,768 suspects and 19,398 recovered people.
Against this background, Sheinbaum asked the population to exercise extreme caution over the next few days as otherwise stricter measures will have to be taken.

The head of government announced some of the measures to be implemented during the following week (July 27 to August 2).
In the case of the Historic Center, the business hours are resumed from 11 to 5 pm, from Monday to Saturday. In addition, there will be constant monitoring and monitoring of health measures.
While in colonies and villages the priority care programme will be strengthened. A colony will be announced on Monday if colonies are added to this strategy.
Supervision in tianguis and trades will also be strengthened to respect the measures in place.
How we could go back to red
The head of government warned that if the increase in hospitalizations continues in the following days “greater restrictions will apply to activities that are open.”
But if those measures don’t work and you reach 5,127 occupied beds in the Mexico Valley metropolitan area, the CDMX will return to the red light.
The metropolitan area of the Valley of Mexico – which includes the CDMX and the adjoining municipalities of the Edomex – has currently 4,715 occupied beds. That is, you are 412 beds from going to the red light.
Sheinbaum clarified that for the change of traffic light color, in addition to hospitalizations is taken into account: the speed of growth in these, the rate of positivity, and the percentage of suspects related to positivity.

To avoid reaching this situation, the representative introduced three basic rules:
– Stay at home as long as possible, especially vulnerable people.
– Always use mouth covers, keep your distance healthy and wash your hands frequently.
– And stay at home in case of any symptoms and report it via sms or Locatel.
Sheinbaum commented that while the increase in hospitalizations is not just due to the change from red to orange traffic light, reopening activities does increase the likelihood of contagion and therefore stressed the importance of prevention.
