There are several reports suggesting that Google is trying to convince Samsung (with a lot of money involved) to prioritize the use of the Google Assistant over Bixby, the assistant to the South Korean company, and the Play Store. According to information published by Bloomberg and Reuters and the new global revenue-sharing agreement was finalised, Google would have more control over Samsung devices.
Apparently this isn’t new. Google has long been trying to side with Bixby on the side, but the Korean company has not relented, on the contrary they have given more relevance to its operating system. He even gave his devices dedicated Bixby buttons.
It is not yet clear whether the agreement would force Samsung to leave Bixby and its app store altogether or if you simply have to make those services less integrated into their own devices.
The companies did not confirm the negotiations but did issue messages that were posted by Engadget. A Google spokesman said:
“Like all Android device manufacturers, Samsung is free to create its own app store and digital assistant. That’s one of the great features of the Android platform. And while we talk regularly with partners about ways to improve the user experience, we have no plans to change that.”
While Samsung stated:
“Samsung remains committed to our own ecosystem and services. At the same time, Samsung works closely with Google and other partners to deliver the best mobile experiences for our users.”
