During this day, the director of the National Institute of Human Rights (INDH) Sergio Micco, arrived at the Palacio de La Moneda to hold a meeting with the Minister of the Interior, Víctor Pérez, in order to address the complex scenario that lives in the Region of La Araucanía with demonstrations for the situation of the Mapuche comuneros on hunger strike in the angol prison.
According to Emol, after the appointment, Micco noted that it is “key to retake” the agreement for peace and development of La Araucanía.
It was also very critical of the Government’s management of this situation. “As an institute we consider that the State of Chile has been unable to ensure compliance with public order, the democratic state of law with full respect for human rights,” he said.
“Secondly, there is a cultural and social situation of racism known to all Chileans and Chileans that causes enormous damage. And thirdly, as an institute we have called for dialogue, there is an agreement for peace and development of The Araucanía that we think is key to retake,” Micco said.
The Director of the INDH noted that the concern of the institution and the Government “is to advance, in truth, justice and reparation and guarantees of non-repetition”.
In that line, he took advantage of making a call for “peace” in La Araucanía.
