President Andrés Manuel López Obrador criticized the coverage of some media outlets about COVID-19, for highlighting the number of deaths.
At his morning conference on Monday, the representative said that instead of supporting, it seems that some newspapers “would like” his government to do badly.
“We have to be very attentive, because besides that it is our responsibility and it is something humanitarian, of justice, we have the whole steed, the whole zopilote looking to have elements to question us, because not even this stops them,” he said.

López Obrador lamented that the media highlight the number of deaths in his daily notes related to COVID.
“There you come to the Reform or The Universal, ‘So many dead,’ counting all the deceased, is like their main note; The Alarm already become an objective, professional, serious newspaper or magazine. It’s unfortunate that they’re looking for that, and the same thing is radios and TVs, that’s the first thing. ‘Already Mexico ranks third in the world’, ‘yesterday 300 more Mexicans lost their lives, yesterday the infected grew in a number of five thousand 200 people’ and the columns, the columnists. Very pitiful,” he said.
According to the president, the media gives importance to the number of deceased because they “don’t like change; and they commanded, they were the fourth power, if not the first, and a lot of business, a lot of money. So that’s why anger.”
He commented that the budget is now intended only for people and not for organic media or intellectuals who previously “received up to one million pesos per month.”
He reiterated that the people of Mexico are intelligent and conscious, so they will not be manipulated with that kind of news.
On the subject of hospital occupation, López Obrador assured that there are no saturation problems and that to date no one has run out of bed, no fan or no care.
“There are cases, for example, we had the Hospital of the Issste full, is full the hospital of the Issste in Valles, San Luis Potosí, but we have space in the Insurance in the public hospitals,” he said.
As of this Monday, in Mexico they number 52 thousand 298 people killed by COVID-19, as well as 480 thousand 278 confirmed cases accumulated.
