translated from Spanish: Linchan to man in Puebla; it was a crime, we identified assailants: Barbosa

On August 9, in the municipality of Tlacotepec of Benito Juárez, Puebla, a group of people lynched a man who was accused of being an alleged kidnapper; today, the state government noted that everything seems to indicate that it was not an offender and that the people who provoked the lynching have already been identified.
The murdered man was identified by his relatives as Marique Tadeo, was 35 years old, was originally from Veracruz, and lived in Tehuacán Puebla, where he worked as a satellite cable installer for companies such as Megacable.

In an interview for journalist Ciro Gómez Leyva at Imagen Televisión, marique’s relatives ensured that last Sunday he traveled to the community of San Marcos Tlacolayo, in Tlacotepec, to make an installation.
There he was charged and detained by the local authorities.
According to the middle El Popular, around 9 o’clock on Sunday night, Marique and two other men were accused by some neighbors of trying to kidnap a minor, but only arrested him and gave notice to the authorities.
After the indictment, the municipal policemen brought Manrique to the municipal command in order to make it available to state authorities.
But hours later, hundreds of people broke into command claiming that Marique be handed them over.
By the number of people, the municipal troops were overtaken and Manrique was left in the hands of the inhabitants of San Marcos, who took him out of command to beat him and throw stones at him to death.
Some lynching videos were shared on social media causing outrage.
Megacable issued a statement demanding justice and claiming that people lynched Manrique without having a single piece of evidence.

“There was no trial, only that of an instigated and unbridled mob, with no authority to mediate. Violations of rights can no longer be tolerated,” reads in the statement.
There will be no impunity
At his press conference on Wednesday, the governor of Puebla, Miguel Barbosa, reported that there is already an investigation folder for the case and that the three people who incited the lynching have already been identified.
Barbosa noted that investigations in the case “may lead to conclusion” that Marique was not a kidnapper but only a worker dedicated to cable installation.
The governor added that several people who could be identified to images and videos of the area, as well as the testimonies of policemen who were also assaulted, participated in the lynching.
“What happened there was a crime, even if they had tried to kidnap a child, there’s no doubt we’ll apply the law,” he said.
Barbosa added that the three people who are already identified were the ones who incited the community to get Marique out of command and lynch him.
According to the governor, the group of inhabitants even used a patrol to accomplish their task, in addition to damaging the command’s facilities.
Not being the first time such a fact has occurred in the entity, the governor called on the population not to get carried away by their emotions, since a lynching is not justice, but is “people acting under a state of emotion of bad faith”.
