SkyDrive Inc. of Japan was the company that created the flying car and that in a successful test managed to stay in the air between one and two meters high, circulating with a passenger on board for four minutes. SkyDrive project manager Tomohiro Fukuzawa revealed: «Of the more than 100 flying car projects in the world, only a handful was successful with one person on board. I hope many people want to drive it and feel safe,» adding that the flying car can be a reality in 2023.
At the moment, the vehicle can fly between 5 and 10 minutes, but the company’s intention is to increase it to 30. In principle, eVTOL cars offer a quick personal transfer from one point to another. The big inconveniences to develop them are battery size, air traffic control and other infrastructure problems. «A lot of things have to happen,» said Sanjiv Singh, a professor at Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute, who is in the making of another flying model with another brand.
Finally, Singh anticipated: «If they cost $10 million, no one will buy them. If they fly for five minutes, no one will buy them.»
