translated from Spanish: It’s still stung, economic activity in Downtown Morelia

Morelia, Michoacán.- A balance of 200 closed shops that left 600 people out of work and economic losses of 650 million pesos, is what has left the crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic for bidders of the first painting of Morelia, reported Alfonso Guerrero Guadarrama, president of the Association of Merchants and Neighbors of the Historic Center (Covechi).
In interview, the representative of the more than four thousand businesses of the Morelia Center said that while there has been an increase in sales during the months of the New Cohabitation (June to date), there are 200 businesses that did not open their doors.
“The sectors most affected are bars, restaurants, hotels, stationery because the school season was lost, the same in uniforms, public transport, because Morelia has a very large student population,” he said.
In this sense, Guerrero Guadarrama emphasized that they opened 95 percent of the business, remaining closed 5 percent representing 200 locals.
“We lost between 500 and 600 jobs, we haven’t reached the break-even point yet to calculate economic losses, but they add up to more than 650 million pesos from March to date,” he concluded.
