He said: “This year, we have elections in Venezuela, it’s the 25th election in 20 years. We have invited the Secretary-General of the United Nations to send a technical commission accompanying the election process for a new parliament, a new National Assembly, on 6 December.” The elections are embroiled in controversy, as a group of opponents led by Juan Guaidó rejects them on the basis that there are no conditions for fair elections in Venezuela. The Maduro Government extended an invitation at the beginning of the month to the European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN) to participate as observers in the electoral process. However, the EU responded a few days later by stating that it does not have enough time to send an election observation mission to Venezuela if the elections are held by 6 December, as the invitation was made out of time. BET ON A MULTIPOLAR WORLDOn another hand, Maduro showed his support for the consolidation of one multipolar world against another with a single “hegemon” that he considers a contradiction with the 21st century. He stated that “today we are facing a challenge, or we build a multipolar world where we all exist, be respected, a world of balance, with full respect for the United Nations System and the international system, or a hegemonic world, dominated by a single hegemón, a unipolar world, is imposed.” In his view, the first option facilitates the existence of a world “in its diversity, in its peace, in its cooperation”, while the second is “the world of hegemón, of imperialism”. In addition, it showed its support for the World Health Organization (WHO), as it considered, in the face of the new coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) “humanity’s greatest union is needed” and that organization implies “the expression of multilateralism in a fundamental area of peoples’ lives that is health”. That’s why he criticized WHO’s “had to endure attacks, assaults and insults” at a time when he believes WHO needs unity and support.

Finally, as he did last Friday in speaking at the 2030 Summit on sustainable development goals, he denounced Venezuela for years as a victim of “multiform aggressions” with “criminal and illegal sanctions”, as well as coercive measures.
