Progressive Convergence (CS), composed of the PPD, PS and PR, rated the recent declaration of the Conglomerate Unit for Change (PC, FRVS and PRO) calling for the boost of regional primaries.
“We value the openness expressed by this group of opposition parties, coinciding with what we have been raising, in the sense of promoting legal primaries for regional governors and governors, in order to arrive with unitary candidacies for these historic elections next April,” they said from CS in a statement.
According to the coalition, the unity of the centre-left is “fundamental” to a common project in the face of the challenges of the regions. They also reiterated their conviction that the primaries are also the ideal mechanism for defining unitary candidacies from the centre-left to the mayoralties.
“We hope that this positive sign of Unity for Change will be welcomed by the rest of the opposition arc, and we particularly reiterate this call to the Broad Front, a bloc that still keeps its decision pending. Today, a few weeks after the plebiscite for The Apruebo and the Constitutional Convention, it is imperative to persevere in the effort of unity,” they added.
Finally, from Progressive Convergence they pointed out that they can prevent the right, being a social and political minority and “refractory to change,” from gaining an over-representation in mayoralty and governorates, but this, they said, “will be achieved to the extent that we put people’s general interest, over identitarian efforts that, being legitimate, should not hinder the construction of the majorities necessary to make the changes that citizens are demanding.”
“We reiterate available to achieve the broadest unit target,” they concluded.
