Chiapas.- A series of earthquakes between 4.0 and 5.5 degrees of magnitude were recorded in the state of Chiapas between last night and the early morning of this Monday, reported the National Seismological Service (SSN). The first of the tremors was recorded at 23:13 hours, it was an earthquake of magnitude 5.4 with epicenter 110 kilometers southwest of the municipality of Pijijiapan, at a depth of 10 km.

At the same time, the SSN recorded another earthquake of magnitude 5.5, this located 142 km southwest of Mapastepec, with a depth of 6 km.
Just four minutes later, at 23:17 hours, another earthquake of magnitude 4.2 was recorded, with epicenter located 36 km southwest of the municipality of Mapastepec, at a depth of 137 km. During the early morning the earthquakes continued ranging from 4.0 to 5.3 degrees in magnitude. At 12:12 hours there was one of 4.0 to 147 km southwest of Mapastepec, and another more than 4.2 to 144 km southwest of the same municipality.

At 1:06, the SNN reported a tremor of magnitude 5.0 to 44 km southeast of Ciudad Hidalgo, while at 1:58 there was another magnitude 4.6 to 131 km southwest of Mapastepec, and at 2:03 another more than 5.3 degrees to 94 km southwest of the same municipality. At 5:17 a.m., another 4.0 tremor with epicenter located 140 km southwest of Mapastepec was recorded, at a depth of 10 km. Civil Protection Authorities in Chiapas reported that monitoring protocols were activated in the face of seismic activity, ruling out material damage, injuries or the possibility of tsunami.
