After Apruebo’s hard-hitting victory, Defense Minister Mario Desbordes arrived at the Courtyard Hotel in Las Condes, where he met with the National Renewal (RN) board.
There he gave a speech in which he stated that “we are proud of what we have done in all these years. On 15 November we signed a document, and I greet Hernán Larraín who is also here with us, along with the president of the UDI, Jacqueline van Rysselberghe and there was the discussion whether or not we had done the right thing, whether or not we had interpreted citizenship.”
According to Emol, Desbordes, former president of RN and one of the main voices of the Apruebo in Chile Vamos, noted that “the bluntness of the vote, the massiveness of the turnout, shows that people wanted what we were signing that day and there is no longer any discussion about that.”
The minister added that “we have had an important division, it is true, not that we should avoid referring to that. Many of ours were for Rejection, others for The Apruebo, the unnecessary discussion of how many on the one hand and how many on the other, was ended today.”
The former RN helmsman considered that “no one can pretend that the centre-right is 20% of Chile, we are much more than that and it is shown then that many people at centroderecha vote for Apruebo”.
Finally, he raised that “the UDI, Evópoli, the PRI and National Renewal have to work together to face, in electoral terms, the greatest of all battles, which is april 11 when we elude regional governors, mayors and councillors and above all parity constituents. Thanks to the efforts of many of this party, that day, that battle, the most important of all, I am sure that we will remain triumphant and give it together as a coalition united in diversity.”
