translated from Spanish: Don’t ask for or den ‘skull’, mayors say to COVID

Every year thousands of children in the country’s capital came out in disguise to the streets to ask for ‘skull’ on Day of the Dead. But this time, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, mayors of Mexico City ask people not to go out with their children to order candy, and also not give them if they come to touch your house, to avoid further contagion.
“Public events of any kind, i.e. skulls, tours, popular verbenas, pantheon visits, and traditional skull requests, will not be allowed,” Magdalena Contreras Mayor Patricia Ortiz said in a video.
“It’s everyone’s job as a government when doing oversight, for mothers and fathers, not to go out with their little ones to the streets,” he added.

This year the memory of our loved ones must be from the heart and from home. It’s our turn to take care of ourselves and be responsible for our health.

Ortiz also called on all merchant establishments, grocery stores and market workers not to promote the delivery of skulls and therefore gatherings of people.
The mayor of Alvaro Obregón, Layda Sansores, also asked people to stay home on these dates of Day of the Dead, not to go to pantheons and also not to give skulls or sweets in the houses.

This is no time for meetings, let’s be in solidarity to avoid contagions #Covid19. Take good care of yourself, don’t expose your family.

The mayor of Iztapalapa, Clara Brugada, also asked people not to attend meetings.

#PanteonesCerrados will remain for the entire contingency.
Let’s avoid an uptick in #COVID19 contagion, #DíaDeMuertos don’t go to the pantheon, don’t go out and ask for a skull or attend meetings.
