White House Democratic nominee Joe Biden beat U.S. President Donald Trump by 264 delegates to 214 at the Electoral College, according to projections from major U.S. media outlets.
Biden has just been awarded all 16 delegates from the key state of Michigan, and is one state away from winning the presidency.
The Electoral College is a body composed of 538 delegates who elect states according to their population. The winning candidate in each state, even for a single vote, takes all of his or her commitments with the exception of Nebraska and Maine. The contender who reaches 270 wins the election.
