Yuriorkis Gamboa (30-3, 18 KOs), a former unified featherweight world champion and Cuban hero, after his Olympic gold medal, will attempt to become a three-time world champion, on his third chance, having unsuccessfully challenged Terence Crawford and Gervonta Davis, two of today’s top fighters.
“I am very grateful to God, for allowing this fight to happen and for the miracle of healing my Achilles heel,” said Gamboa, 38, whom they nickname “The Cyclone of Guantanamo” and who made his professional boxing debut in 2007.
“I’ve been dreaming and wanting to fight for the WBC Green Belt since I was an amateur in Cuba. I’m ready and determined to win this title for my fans and prove that those who dismissed me, like a finished fighter, were wrong,” Yuriorkis said. Gamboa Toledano recalled that he fell short in the fight he starred in against Gervonta Davis, due to the mills he began to feel from the Achilles heel, from the second round. “But I fought the rest of the fight with one foot, hurting him in the middle rounds.” He added: “You’ll see a healthy Gamboa fight with my two legs, my fists and my warrior heart. With god’s blessings, I will emerge victorious on November 7,”.THE CHAMPION For his part, world champion Davin Haney (24-0, 15 KOs) returns to the ring for the first time since November 2019, after injuring his right shoulder, defeating Alfredo Santiago, in what was his first defense of his title, in Los Angeles, California. On the same billboard, Chinese heavyweight Zhilei Zhang (21-0, 16 KOs) will be measured by American day laborer Devin Vargas (22-6, 9 KOs), in a duel agreed to ten rounds.
