U. de Valparaiso Neurobiology Talk Cycle

Monday 9 November – 19:00 hours.
Free access and transmission via Zoom, with reservation of up to 100 places to the mail: mhnv@museoschile.gob.cl

Bringing and bringing scientific content to much of the population is not an easy task, let alone now, where concerns and fears are focused on everyday problems. Despite this, the Natural History Museum of Valparaiso and the Center for Neurobiology and Integrative Physiology of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Valparaiso (CENFI), will start the first cycle of talks on neurobiology and healthy practices.
The activity, which will be done digitally, includes three conferences from November to Next January, addressing health issues and problems, but from a neurobiology perspective.
For Dr. Ignacio Negrón, CENFI researcher and one of the organizers of the activity. “The talks will cover topics that basically affect us all, because they are more applied themes to the daily lives of all people.”
“For example, we know that part of being in good health is having an ideal weight. Who hasn’t tried dieting to control their weight? and yet it’s hard to achieve. In this cycle, one of the talks will address this issue. We will also talk about the benefits of physical exercise in a number of health aspects that not only involve cardiovascular or metabolic status, but also mental health; for example, those who do sport know that after a football match or a few minutes of running one feels better, with better encouragement. Here we’re going to talk about why that happens and what benefits it brings to health. Basically we all want to be healthy, but I don’t know if we all really know how to do it. That’s what we’re going to talk about here. In short, the topics we will discuss in the talks are oriented to how to take care of our health, based on scientific evidence and recounted by researchers who have been studying these issues for years.”
Opening day
The activity will begin this Monday, November 9 at 7 p.m., with the talk: “Adolescence, pleasure and addiction what do you have in common?”, and will be carried out by Dr. Ramón Sotomayor, who investigates the neurobiological mechanisms of addictions.
“The talk will try to explain why some substances or activities, natural and unnatural, are so motivating and offer so much reward for our brains, to understand why it is so difficult to treat addictions and why teenagers are more vulnerable to these disorders,” Negrón said.
Access is free and transmission via Zoom, with reservation of up to 100 places to the mail: mhnv@museoschile.gob.cl
